18ct demantoid garnet and diamond ring

A wonderful antique 18ct demantoid garnet and diamond carved head ring, hallmarked Birmingham 1908. The head of the ring features intricately carved gold detailing and the head of the ring measures 5mm wide and 15mm across the finger. There are some signs of wear on the demantoid garnets due to age. This ring is a UK size Q / US size 8.

Demantoid garnets are known for their exceptional brilliance and dispersion or "fire". It was first discovered in the Ural Mountains of Russia, some 30 years after the discovery of Alexandrite in the same area.Demantoid was a popular gemstone during the Belle Époque period (1890-1915), especially in Art Nouveau jewellery.
